When you are planning the meals that will need to be cooked on a camping trip, there are going to be a couple of considerations. You should aim for meals that are going to be easy to carry around and will not require a lot of preparation or equipment in order to cook. Think about simple meals that feature just a couple of ingredients. Below are some ideas on the best foods that can be cooked over a campfire.
Roasted Corn On The Cob
This is classic favorite that is incredibly easy to prepare. Place the corn cobs with their husks on the top of your grill to one side of the flames. Turn them over every now and again and when they are ready smother them in butter, salt and pepper.
Potatoes are one of the food’s that works great over a fire. Some ideas would be to wrap them in foil and then place them on top of the coals. Or cut the potatoes up with some onion and your favorite spices and oil and then wrap them into foil envelopes that you cook on top of your grill.
Another way to cook your food is to use a small pot on top of the fire where you can boil pre-made meals that you have prepared before the camping trip, or couscous and oatmeal.
This is a really tasty treat to include on your camping trip. Mix the dry ingredients into a sealable bag before the trip. On the day you are ready to cook the biscuits, add your wet ingredients directly into the bag kneading the dough from the outside of the bag. Now place foil over your grill. This bag method also works for flapjack or pancake batter. Squeeze the mixture directly over the foil and wait for the biscuits to cook.
