We enjoy seeing plenty of groups camp together here at Yonderhill. It’s a great way to camp for several reasons. It’s kid friendly, affordable, memorable, and work can be shared so that everyone gets a chance for some down time.
Organizing a big group can be a challenge so we thought we would share a few tips that may reduce the chaos and increase the fun.
Once the dates have been set and reservations have been made it is time to make a list of all items needed for your stay. There is no need for everyone to bring everything. One family might bring a first-aide kit and another might bring the Dutch Oven.
You may designate that each family bring a predetermined amount of burger or chicken per person for BBQ nights and snacks and staples enough for their own family. Some groups choose instead to collect money for the food and purchase it all in one trip.
Things like trash bags, tarps, grills, coolers, and lawn games can be added to the list for individuals to volunteer to bring.
The most important thing is to have one organizer who communicates with each family. If you can manage to keep all information going directly to that person there will be fewer forgotten items and frustrations.
A menu plan is a big plus as well as job assignments. This allows things to run as planned with each person receiving a copy and understanding where and when they are needed.
You might consider assigning someone to be the photographer. Not that no one else can take photos, but assigning someone to that duty will provide the group with someone who is focused on capturing the best moments throughout the trip. It also makes things easier to have only one person to go to for photos if you plan to assemble them into a book or an online album after your group returns home.
We have seen so many wonderful groups have the time of their lives while camping here and nothing pleases us more.
